FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) —Much of our area is still in the ‘severe drought’ category on the latest Drought Monitor released on December 5. But there are signs that the drought is easing.

Even though most of the area is still considered in a severe drought eastern portions including all of northwest Ohio have improved as the drought eases.

Rainfall today (Monday) should help ease drought conditions and shrink the area of severe drought even further.

So far this December the official reporting site at the Fort Wayne airport reports that we are over half of an inch behind when compared to the December averages.

Since January first, we have been over six inches behind the average rainfall with just over 37 inches of moisture reported for the year.
