ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4)—Julia Johnson tells First Alert 4 she met Michelle Hampton at work and instantly became best friends.

“She definitely was a great mom, great friend, a great daughter, great sister. She strived for greatness, and she didn’t deserve this,” says Johnson.

Johnson told First Alert 4 that nothing could have prepared for a phone call she received from Hampton’s sister Wednesday morning. She claims the sister let her know Hampton had been abducted .

Johnson said, “I immediately went to the police station and tried to meet up with her sister.”

Hampton’s family made social media posts asking for the public to help find her.

According to St. Louis Police Department Public Information Officer Mitch McCoy, “A woman encountered a male suspect in the city of Clayton; a family member witnessed the female enter that vehicle with the individual, who was armed.”

In a Thursday morning update, St. Louis police said Hampton had been kidnapped from Whitburn Drive in Clayton.

According to investigators, the woman was forced to drive from Clayton to St. Louis. A family member followed the car, and the suspect shot at her on Euclid and Enright, but no one was hurt. Around 11:00 a.m., police arrived at Greer Ave, where they found a woman who had been shot and killed.

St. Louis police announced they’d be working with Clayton police in this investigation.

Police have not released the victim’s identity, but a friend and family member have identified her as Michelle Hampton on social media posts.

Johnson said, “I feel like the police should’ve done more. I feel like during the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., there was a window of opportunity there that they missed.”

“Leads are coming in by the minute, and detectives are working to make sure there’s justice for the victim in the family. " McCoy said.

Johnson said she has her own suspicions about who may have abducted and killed the mother.

“Probably someone that knew her and wanted to take advantage of her is my guess. I think this was targeted. I don’t think this was random,” states Johnson.

A GoFundMe page has been created to support Hampton’s family.
