BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WFSB) - A man was arrested for criminal impersonation after being stopped in Bridgeport, state police reported in a release sent on Thursday.

At approximately 11 a.m. on September 24th, troopers spotted a driver traveling on Rt. 8 at a high rate of speed, merging across several lanes at once.

The vehicle traveled 90 mph in a 65 mph zone, well above the posted speed limit.

Troopers conducted a stop, and the vehicle pulled into the right shoulder of the roadway.

The man was asked for his license; the driver claimed he did not have it and provided a name and date of birth.

A query was conducted with the Department of Motor Vehicles, which discovered an active arrest warrant in Derby for the name and date of birth provided by the driver.

However, it was later discovered that the individual turned over to the Derby PD and was not who they thought.

He was William Lee, 52 years old of Shelton, who had provided the troopers with a family member’s name and birthday.

Troopers took Lee into custody and transported him to Troop G to be booked and processed.

The original misdemeanor summons issued to Lee were voided as a result, and he was ultimately charged with criminal impersonation, forgery, and interfering with an officer, among other charges.

He was held on a $50,000 cash/surety bond and was scheduled for arraignment at Bridgeport Superior Court on September 25, 2024.
