SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A growing demand for the services of the Siouxland Soup Kitchen is forcing that non-profit to make some changes in its operations. Each day the kitchen puts out a balanced meal with protein, vegetables, fruit, bread, milk and a drink. But say they’re now seeing more people than ever come out to get that meal. “Over the last year our number of diners each night has almost doubled. A busy night used to be 100 to 110 people and now we’re seeing upticks of 165 to 195,” said Director Lyn Kluender with Siouxland Soup Kitchen. The kitchen says they’re now focusing more on food because of the increased demand but will still take some clothing donations. “We had to scale back on Erik’s Closet so we could focus on getting enough food to feed all of our diners. So this year we are just asking for the winter essentials of winter coats, winter boots, winter hats, winter gloves, hand warmers, said Kluender.
