JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — "Even if they'd survived, they would have been terrified," said Mike Merrill with Florida Urgent Rescue or F.U.R., a Jacksonville nonprofit.

Merrill and his crew drove to counties under a Hurricane Warning before Helene hit to take 93 dogs and cats out of mostly open-air shelters.

Now, 19 of those dogs are available for fostering or adoption at the Pet Paradise Jacksonville airport location.
