ST. LOUIS — Forecasters warn that St. Louis is in for another period of active weather, with risks from wind, hail and tornadoes all possible on Sunday — although residents needn't worry about another outbreak of deadly twisters like those that tracked across the region earlier this month.

"The potential is not there for a repeat of March 14," said Melissa Delia, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service's local forecast office. "We do want people to still be prepared."

As of Friday, the precise outlook for Sunday was still taking shape. Delia said meteorologists "will have a much better understanding and picture of what's going to happen" on Saturday, after another 24 hours of data come to light.

But confidence was already highest in the potential for the weekend's weather to produce damaging winds of up to 70 mph, Delia said, which wouldn't start around the metro area until Sunday afternoon.

"Hail and tornadoes are still on the table, but our confidence in them is just lower, at this point," she said.
