TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - After overcast skies the past couple days, it’s going to be sunny today with seasonal highs. This will likely be the nicest day we’ll have in a while with the combination of sunshine, light winds and comfortable temperatures so take advantage of it. While temperatures will be similar if not slightly cooler tomorrow and Saturday there will be more clouds. Temperatures continue to cool down Sunday into next week with snow making a return to the forecast. Confidence is high on the overall weather pattern through the weekend with highs mainly in the 40s today and Saturday and 30s on Sunday. There may be more of a mix of 30s and 40s on Friday. A cold front actually pushes through today and Saturday which depending how quickly the cooler airmass pushes into the area will depend on how warm it gets. Some models are indicating mid to even upper 40s today and Saturday in some areas but not going quite that warm although don’t be surprised if it does in your area. Today: Decreasing clouds this morning. Highs in the low-mid 40s. Winds N 5-15 this morning, 5-10 mph this afternoon. Tonight: Clear. Lows in the mid-upper 20s. Winds NE around 5 mph. Tomorrow: Increasing clouds in the morning. Highs in the upper 30s-low 40s. Winds E 5-15, gusts up to 25 mph. The breezy conditions continue into Saturday with less wind Sunday when it’s going to be cooler. While there may be some sun at times this weekend there will be quite a bit of cloud cover as well so it’ll definitely feel like winter. It’ll feel even more like winter next work week as temperatures are expected to be in the teens for lows and highs in the 20s. This is subject to change if models start bringing in the colder airmass up in the northern plains closer to us. As of now single digit wind chills are expected for most areas next week but above zero. Bottom line be prepared for several inches of snow next week with temperatures likely staying below freezing all week (after Monday). There are signs of a warming trend Friday into Saturday before the next arctic front pushes through Sunday.
