A traffic shift will occur on the newly constructed southbound U.S. 63 bridge, south of Interstate 70 in Columbia, to allow for construction of the northbound bridge, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Starting Monday, this new traffic pattern will be in place through the end of August.

According to the release, as the construction of the southbound bridge nears completion, crews anticipate the beginning construction of the northbound bridge next week. These new bridges will create an underpass, which will allow traffic from Conley Road to move north directly into the I-70 and U.S. 63 interchange.

Th underpass will be the first phase of reconstructing the I-70/U.S. 63 interchange, which is part of the first project within MoDOT’s statewide Improve I-70 Program.

Currently, both directions of U.S. 63 between the Broadway overpass and the Conley Road underpass are pushed to the northbound lanes.

The single-lane closure for southbound traffic will be extended to allow for rehabilitation work on the bridges over I-70. All exit and entrance ramps for U.S. 63 will remain open, according to the release.
