Washington County
Washington County, population just over 209,000, has voted solidly Republican for two decades. The county, considered part of the Greater Pittsburgh region, voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump (60.8%) in 2020 to 38.1% for Biden. The last time a Democratic presidential candidate won the county was in 2004. Voters: Robin and Jeff Miller
The Millers, both 62, operate Jemco Construction LLC, which has been in the family since its founding in 1935 in Washington County. Both support Trump and say they prioritize issues like abortion, the economy, and immigration. They see the election as crucial for reversing Biden administration policies, which they claim have harmed the economy. They also advocated for stricter voting regulations and expressed skepticism over election integrity. Jeff: “It’s not that we don’t want immigrants, we want them vetted.” Robin: “I don’t know [what more Trump can do]. I think he’ll keep [the decision] in the states, is what he’ll do. I think [Democrats] would try to reexamine that call.” Robin: “I think there’s more on the line because we have to dig ourselves out of a hole, and I think more people are becoming desperate in their financial situations.” “The war on fossil fuels has to be, I mean— we developed the cleanest form of natural gas. So why would we buy it from other countries who have no regulations? They’re still producing. It still goes into the atmosphere at the at the uncleanest levels, and it still affects all of us. So why would those with the most reinforcements for clean energy not be the ones producing it for the world?” Jeff: “I don’t want to see my pets voting, my dead grandparents voting.” Robin: “I don’t understand why we do not have to show identification. Even at the Democratic conventions, when they have them, they have people show their ID before they go enter in. How is that?”
