One dead and another in the hospital following a weekend shooting at a Huntsville gas station. Just before 10pm Saturday, Huntsville Police confirmed an officer patrolling in the in the 3300 block of Meridian Street heard multiple gunshots. Several officers responded to the Chevron gas station and found 22 year-old Damien Obrien Manning with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene. Police say Huntsville Hospital notified them of a second gunshot victim who arrived to the hospital in a personal vehicle. That person is in critical condition. Chevron cashier Ramson Baker was behind the register Saturday night and recalls more than 200 people gathered in the gas station's parking lot. A majority of the crowd he says had guns in their hands ranging from assault riffles to hand guns. Baker says so many shots were fired he lost count. "The first we heard was like a glock that went off you know, 'pop, pop, pop'," Baker said, "then an assault rifle, we don't know what type maybe an AK-47 or something, it went off like it was spraying like 15 to 10 bullets at a time." Baker says people were running inside the store trying to take cover in the coolers and bathrooms to avoid the bullets. “The first time when they went off, we thought it was firecrackers so we are like those are just maybe fireworks or something you know," Baker said, "then the other gun went off, that’s when everybody started taking cover." Police confirmed several individuals fired shots from opposing sides of the parking lot. Baker hopes this incident will increase officer's patrols in the area. HPD says they have multiple leads but the investigation is ongoing.
