ORLANDO, Fla. – After a stretch of active weather across Central Florida, Mother’s Day on Sunday is shaping up to be more of the same. While rain chances remain high, it won’t be a total washout — just one of those days where you’ll want to have some indoor options ready, especially later on. If you’re making plans, remember the stormiest weather will favor the second half of the day.
What to expect
Sunday morning looks mostly dry, with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures starting in the 70s. It’ll feel quite muggy thanks to high humidity, but rain isn’t expected during this time — perfect for an early brunch or walk before things heat up. Rain chances start to ramp up after 2 p.m. as temperatures climb into the mid-80s, feeling more like the 90s. By late Sunday afternoon, rain coverage will be at 60–70%, especially in areas where the sea breezes collide. As of Friday, the Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of western Central Florida under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather — check back leading up to Sunday as this may change. Beach plans? The surf looks calm between 1-2 feet, with a moderate rip current risk. If mom wants some beach time, the morning and early afternoon are your best bet—just keep an eye on the western sky as storms start bubbling up. If you’ve got outdoor plans between 2–8 p.m., it’s a good idea to have a backup option indoors, just in case. Rain or shine, wishing all moms, stepmoms, grandmothers and mother figures a very Happy Mother’s Day!
