As millions of Alabamians get ready to head to the polls tomorrow for election day, make sure you’re prepared and ready to make your voice heard. Madison County Probate Judge Frank Barger says the most important things to do before heading in to vote is verify your voting status and polling location and bring a valid form of ID. “This week every voter, every registered voter, should already have a plan. You should verify your registration, verify your polling location, and treat it like an appointment,” Barger said, “make a time, ‘I’m going to go to my polling location at this certain time to cast my ballot’; folks should be prepared in advance of election day itself.” Although 21 states in the U.S. prohibit voters from wearing a campaign's shirts, buttons, or stickers to the polls, in Alabama you can wear whatever you want– as long as it's appropriate. “All election officials certainly must be in plain clothes. Election officials cannot wear any political material, anything related to a candidate,” Barger said, “but a voter may wear anything that they wish into a polling location as long as they’re appropriately dressed. Certainly voters can wear whatever they like.” Judge Barger says voting should be a smooth and quick process getting in and out without issues. “There are really 5 things that a voter will do in a polling location: check in, receive their ballot, mark their ballot, cast their ballot through the machine and be on their way,” Barger said.
