PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s a First Alert Weather Day as a strong storm system makes its way through Arizona. Expect rain, snow, thunderstorm potential and cooler temperatures to end the work week.

Look for widespread rain this morning across the Valley. This afternoon, additional showers are possible but will be more scattered in nature. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon, including the threat for small hail.

Rainfall amounts today should be near one-third to two-thirds of an inch in the Valley, but could be higher where thunderstorms develop. Temperatures won’t climb higher than the upper 50s.

Most of the high country is under a Winter Weather Advisory or Winter Storm Warning today. Heavy snow continues to fall likely into the afternoon hours, with snow levels dropping to near 4,000 feet. Travel is hazardous with accumulating snow, gusty winds and reduced visibility. About 8-12 inches of snow is possible in Flagstaff, with 2-6 inches possible in Prescott.

The storm winds down during the overnight hours tonight and the weekend ahead looks warmer and dry. However, two more storms look to bring unsettled weather back to Arizona next week. At this point, Tuesday and Thursday look to be the most likely to bring more rain and snow, but we’ll keep you posted as we get closer.
