Nothing says 'I Love You' like cake and chocolate. Throw in an extra surprise with this Bursting With Love Cake!
It’s not truly Valentine’s day without the staples: Sweets, chocolate, cake, and heart shapes. Combine the red colored love of the holiday with the V-Day staple chocolate to pull off this adorable and romantic surprise thats Bursting With Love! So we took some liberties with constructing this recipe. We found the heart cut-outs at Target in lieu of proper cookie cutters. Luckily, I found the shape was the perfect size for a cake for two... You know, if you really love cake. Check out the video and follow along with our recipe! https://youtu.be/5qI7e5KCX58 Making your cake a sheet cake, instead of baking a full heart-shaped cake was also a lot more simple than attempting to slice a thick cake into three separate pieces. This is all up to preference and skill level. As for me, this is the first kind of cake like this I’ve ever made and I’d have to say, the sheet cake-heart cut out method was very simple! [gallery size="large" ids="8776,8777,8774,8775"] What You’ll Need: Cake Mix (we used regular boxed white cake) Red food dye 4 oz Cream cheese 4 oz butter 2 cups Powdered sugar 1 package baking chocolate 3 tbsp. Heavy cream Any kind of Sprinkles you’d like Directions: Make batter according to box, or make your own from scratch (more power to ya!) *we added red food dye to make it more lovey Spread out batter on a cookie sheet with borders. To make removal easy and clean, line sheet with wax paper and spread some flour, or lightly spray the paper. Bake cake for 10-15 minutes, or until the top starts to brown and a knife comes out clean from the middle.Let your cake cool for about 10-20 minutes. In the meantime you can make your frosting and chocolate glaze!
For Frosting: So, you could always buy store bought frosting. But what’s the fun in that? This cream cheese frosting is so simple anyone with a little bit of upper body strength can do it. If you have a mixer, even better! All you have to do is:- Combine the butter and cream cheese
- Add powdered sugar 1 cup at a time
- You can add 1 tsp. Of vanilla extract, only if you like that extra vanilla flavor
- Chop up baking chocolate and place in microwave with a tbsp. Of butter for 30 seconds
- Remove and stir, if still chunky place in again for about 15 seconds
- Add in heavy cream and stir
Boom. Done. You’re a frosting and ganache making master!
Now, back to the cake. The construction of the cake is probably the hardest part of the whole process. That’s simply because you have to be gentle with your pieces. Trust us though, the outcome is worth it!- Use cookie cutter (or heart shaped outline, like we did) and cut out 3 heart shaped pieces. *We suggest mapping out your shapes on your empty pan first so you know you have enough space for all three!
- Pick your middle piece and use a smaller heart shape to make an outline of a heart. Conveniently lay out pieces.
- Spread or pipe frosting around the edges of your bottom slice of cake, “glue” middle outline piece to the bottom one
- Fill the inside with the sprinkles you chose! *We got little candies that look like pearls and pink rock candy to be our “rubies”
- Pipe or spread frosting around middle layer
- Stick on that top layer!
- Place your cake on a wire rack over a shallow pan. This is so you can easily spread your chocolate without a HUGE mess.
- Pour chocolate over your cake and spread it over sides and top
- Decorate how you please!
And you’re done! You have a beautiful Bursting With Love cake to cap your romantic Valentine's Day!
This recipe may seem like a lot but when you take it step by step it’s so simple! When you cut open your creation the sprinkles should pour out for a cute and special surprise. Total time for this bursting with love cake should take about an hour. The perfect amount of time to pull this out as an extra Valentine's Day sweetness!
