Washington D.C. is known for politics, government, and yes... barbecue.

While many think that the best barbecue is down South, the nation's capital can comfortably hold its own in the world of tasty beef.  We've found the top barbecue joints in the D.C. area rated on food, experience and atmosphere. The BBQ Joint.  It's a small casual restaurant in Union Market.  There is also a BBQ Joint in Easton and Pasedena, Md.  Chief Andrew Evans' serves up his award-winning competition BBQ.  The sliced brisket is highly recommended.  Rather lean or fat, the delight is in the quality and the moisture.  It's an awesome joint! Smokehouse Live.  If you're looking for ribs, this is the place.  Pit-smoked barbecue, live music and cocktails is what makes Smokehouse Live so luring. They also have a smokin' combo menu that is loaded with choices of turkey, ribs, brisket and pulled pork.  If you drive out to Leesburg on a Saturday night, you'll most likely catch a local or nationally-touring artist. Despite its lack of individuality, it's simply a place where you cannot go wrong. The Ricky Bobby Chicken is great, but the turkey and pulled pork maybe even better.  You can find one in Chantilly, and they're coming soon to Alexandria. Fat Pete's.  The kitchen team constantly refine their rubs and smoker operations to give the customer their absolute best.  This restaurant can top the list. Their St. Louis-styled ribs taste sweet, spiced, and moist.  It's one of the best spots on Connecticut Avenue. Hill Country.  Located in Penn Quarter, their Texas style meats are prepared with the best dry rubs.  Spare ribs are lean and awesome.  Events are performed every night.  The short rib and the brisket moist are an absolute must.
There were a few others who could have made the top BBQ list, such as Kenny's Barbecue Smokehouse, King Ribs, DCity Smokehouse and Old Glory Barbecue.  No disrespect to you guys; you're all premiere BBQ spots.  But, better luck next year.
