Kudos to Colorado homeowners! The majority of us pay our mortgage payments on time, with only 2.12 percent of Coloradans running past due in May.
A report from Black Knight Financial Services studied performance statistics for mortgage payments, finding that, as a whole, seriously delinquent loans in the United States were at a 10-year low, with Colorado leading the charge. As of May 31, only 2.12 percent of Coloradans were behind on their mortgage payments. On the other end of the spectrum, Mississippi homeowners came in the highest, at 10.16 percent. The national average of homeowners who are more than 30 days past due is 3.79 percent. (What is it about colder weather, I wonder?). Following Mississippi with the biggest percentages of delinquent home loans were Louisiana (8.68%), Alabama (7.13%), West Virginia (6.83%), and Maine (6.6%). According to the report, 8.54 percent of Coloradans were delinquent back in February 2010.
The report's findings for 2017 are especially interesting, considering that Denver homeowners currently spend a quarter of their income on housing, The Denver Business Journal notes.
According to their website, Black Knight Financial Services is a Fidelity National Financial company that leads the mortgage and finance industries in "integrated technology, data, and analytics solutions that facilitate and automate many of the business processes across the mortgage lifecycle."
