Fashion retailer H&M plans to open its store in the Stony Point Fashion Park in Richmond on Nov. 22.
The new Stony Point store will open the day before Thanksgiving and will occupy 20,000 square feet of space near the mall’s centrally located Triangle Park. On Tuesday, the chain announced the store's opening date and time. H&M, short for Hennes and Mauritz Inc., has 504 locations in the U.S. and employs more than 16,000 workers. The store and its associated brands operate in 62 countries with more than 4,500 stores. H&M also has a significant online presence, with online shopping available in 32 countries. This store will be H&M's 17th location in Virginia and third location in the Richmond region. Short Pump Town Center and Chesterfield Towne Center also have stores. H&M opened its first area location at Short Pump Town Center as a one-level store when the mall opened in 2003. It added a second level to its store in 2011, now occupying a total of about 21,000 square feet. The 22,000-square-foot store at Chesterfield Towne Center opened in November 2015. It took over space that had been occupied by three other retailers. To celebrate the new store, the H&M at Stony Point Fashion Park will offer the first 200 shoppers in line an H&M Access to Fashion Pass, valued between $10 and $300.
The new store will employ about 20 workers. H&M carries clothing collections for women, men, and teens. The Stony Point location also will carry the H&M Kids collection for newborns to 10-year-olds.
Stony Point has lost several of its tenants in recent years by retailers shuttering stores in the face of online competition. Some of the higher-brow tenants gone include Louis Vuitton, Betsey Johnson, Hollister Co., Ann Taylor, and Build-A-Bear Workshop. Three restaurants have closed, and two of those spaces have remained vacant.
