This seemingly, refreshing sparkling beverage falls flat.

I love trying new products at Trader Joe's, so I was excited to spot their Organic Sparkling Green Tea on their new items shelf. I enjoy both iced and hot green tea, so I thought this would be a no brainer.

Unfortunately, I was wrong. I tried it chilled, as their website suggests, and was pretty disappointed. It tasted rather bland. I will admit I prefer my beverages (and pretty much everything) sweet, and this is definitely unsweetened, but even so, it left me wanting more.

At first sip, it tastes like you're drinking water, and then there's a subtle mint aftertaste. The ingredients list includes carbonated water, green tea concentrate, natural grapefruit flavor, citric acid, natural mint flavor, and natural flavor (whatever that means).

While I suppose I can smell a hint of green tea, I really can't taste it, and I find the mint to be an odd combination. I almost wonder if they should have chosen the flavors in their Organic Sparkling Yerba Mate instead. Their sister beverage contains yerba mate, hibiscus, and white tea extractives, natural lemon and lime flavors, and green tea powder.

On the plus side, there are 0 calories, 0 grams of sugar, and 33mg of caffeine per 12-ounce bottle. They're also only $1.49, so you could give it a try without regretting it if you don't like it. If you're not crazy about it, like me, I would suggest mixing it with something else. I could see it being turned into a refreshing cocktail with the right alcohol.
