Each week, the National Wildlife Federation celebrates the nature and wildlife of a specific state. They’re bringing back the best entries from years past to inspire and challenge photographers for this year’s contest. Below are our favorites from their Colorado Wildlife features!
Photographer Richard Goluch took this photo of a male bluebird displaying during spring migration through the Front Range.
Photographer Seth Murray took the photo of this beautiful Swallowtail butterfly along a hiking trail in New Castle, Colorado.
Nature photographer Robert Birdsall took this photo of Crystal Mill. He wrote of the photo, “I took an exciting four-wheel jeep journey to this spot on Crystal River in Colorado for a photo of Crystal Mill I had wanted to capture for years."

Nature photographer Peter Ismert photographed these two eagles sparring in mid-air, one adult and one juvenile. He wrote, "Once done, off they flew together."
Justin Jircik took this photo of a “friendly and photogenic marmot” on top of Mount Chapin in the Rocky Mountain National Park.
Travel photographer Blaine Harrington took this photo near Crested Butte. Harrington wrote of the photo, “While camping nearby on a trip to photograph wildflowers, we sat out a rainstorm, and then through the trees I peered a giant rainbow overhead, grabbed my camera and ran down the road to get this."
Scenic photographer Frank Comisar took this photo of the San Juan Mountains just as a beautiful afternoon storm rolled in.
