If you're planning to watch the 2020 Olympics this summer (yes, they're being referred to as the 2020 Olympics even though they're taking place in 2021), then this will be a must for your snack table spread. Oreo is getting a patriotic makeover in time for the Tokyo games in July. The Team USA Oreos were originally released last year, but once the games were canceled, Nabisco remarketed them for the Fourth of July. Now, we can celebrate their true purpose!
The classic sandwich cookie bears the Olympic symbol and contains a multi-layered filling of red, white, and blue inside. For a spectacular finish, there's even popping candy buried inside the cream. Team spirit is usually shown through clothing and merch--hats, shirts, oversized foam fingers. Now you can show it through your snack game!
Rachel Lawson, Associate Director Scale Consumer and Retail Engagement for Mondelēz International, spoke of the brand's emphasis on coming together after a difficult year.
"Our brands are catalysts for creating connections and togetherness is our sport," Lawson said in a statement. "After a year largely spent apart, we are proud to be a part of this shared moment, rallying friends and families across the nation to celebrate, snack and cheer on Team USA together – even if only virtually."
The brand is also teaming up with three U.S. athletes competing in the games—gymnast Simone Biles, skateboarder Tom Schaar, and Paralympic triathlete Melissa Stockwell—as part of their "Snack Together. Win Together" campaign.
Team USA Oreos will officially drop on June 14 (Flag Day), along with themed offerings from other Nabisco products like Chips Ahoy and Ritz crackers. You can find them at your nearest grocery store for a limited time. Between their tried-and-true taste and flair for drama, we give this cookie a solid score of 10 out of 10!
