The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile has rolled into the Denver metro area, and for a limited time only, you can see the giant hot dog on wheels in person.
Between now and August 13, the pop-culture icon the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile will be touring around the Denver metro area as it visits local King Soopers stores. Don't miss out on your chance to see the giant hot dog on wheels! Six Wienermobiles tour the United States on a regular basis, and each vehicle is 27-feet long and 11-feet tall -- the equivalent of 60 hot dogs long and 24 hot dogs tall, in case you were wondering. The vehicle was invented in 1936 by Karl G. Mayer, the nephew of Oscar Mayer. Used as a marketing tool, the hot dog on wheels was originally a transport vehicle for the company's spokesperson, Little Oscar. Nowadays, the Wienermobiles are driven by "Hotdoggers" and make frequent stops at grocery stores and festivals and are even featured in parades, all around the country. Apparently, the hiring process to become a Hotdogger is extremely competitive. Only 12 positions are available, with over 1,200 people applying each year. Once an applicant is chosen, then the training begins. Drivers must take a two-week driving course at "Hot Dog High" before they can hit the road. Hotdoggers journey across the U.S. for an entire year, acting as a promotional tool for the company.
