Taco Bell's next free taco promotion is truly out of this world.
Did you know that May 4 marks a pretty special day in the lunar cycle? Take a gaze upwards and the shape of the moon may suddenly trigger a craving for everyone's favorite tasty treat in a crunchy shell. After all, May 4 is Taco Tuesday (and Star Wars Day, a decidedly outer space celebration ... May the 4th be with you all) and Taco Bell has taken heed.
Taco Bell has officially dubbed the half-moon lunar event as the "Taco Moon." And while that technically isn't a thing in the astronomy world, it is definitely a thing for taco fans.
On May 4, Taco Bell will be honoring the Taco Moon with one free crunchy taco per person from 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m., the time period the moon will be the largest and brightest in the sky. The offer is also available all day via the app or online.
This marks the first global, free-taco campaign Taco Bell has launched. The U.S., UK, Australia, India, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico will all be included. The chain anticipates May 4 will mark the most amount of tacos they've given out in a single day.
"Taco Bell has been an established brand in the U.S. for nearly 60 years and we are thrilled by the accelerating fandom we’re seeing globally," said President of Taco Bell, International, Julie Felss Masino in a press release. "As we're opening more and more restaurants internationally, we know the May 4 moon will take us to new heights as we introduce ourselves to new future fans in a delicious way."
Pro tip: You get free tacos from every restaurant you visit (and get at least one round from the app or online), so you are set to have a great taco-filled night if you have several chain locations around you. Just don't blame me for the not-so-great morning the next day.
