The triumphant return is accompanied by a Taco Bell manga.
No, this isn't an ad, even if I'm eating Taco Bell as I write this—we're just really, really big fans.
Did you cry when Taco Bell discontinued nacho fries? Did you watch this The Report of the Week video on repeat in memoriam? Did you read all of our Taco Bell journalism (some of our finest, ladies and gentlemen)? If that sounds like you, we have some glorious news for you: Nacho. Fries. Are. Returning.
Come July 22, Nacho Fries will be back, and better than ever (again). For a limited time only, in true Taco Bell style, they'll be available as either single servings, as part of a $5 box, which includes Nacho Fries, Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, a Crunchy Taco, and a medium fountain drink—or in the new "loaded taco style ... smothered in a layer of warm nacho cheese sauce, reduced fat sour cream and savory seasoned beef," according to the company.
And along with the "fan-favorite menu item," Taco Bell has released an "anime-inspired," manga-esque series of comics about Rei, a dedicated guardian of Nacho Fries. Taco Bell said, "This latest story follows a young woman named Rei who is the leader of Fry Force, an elite group that has kept Mexican-spice-loving monsters at bay so the world can enjoy Nacho Fries. She's driven by the disappearance of her brother and vows to protect the world and what it holds dear: Nacho Fries."
Nacho Fries with a side of corporate-sponsored art? Honestly, we're down.
