The McRib is returning to stores nationwide on October 31.

It has been a season of nostalgia at McDonald’s with the return of Halloween Happy Meal buckets and the introduction of the adult Happy Meal. The restaurant chain has another surprise in store for fans: the return of the McRib ... again.

The pork barbecue sandwich is returning to stores on Halloween, in what McDonald’s claims is a final farewell tour. The 40-year-old sandwich went on farewell tours in 2005, 2006, and 2007, but has made appearances at select locations off and on over the years.

To celebrate the farewell tour, McDonald’s will be selling McRib-themed clothing, accessories, and art pieces online beginning on November 4.

Developed in 1981 by the same chef who invented Chicken McNuggets, the McRib was added to menus to help franchisees deal with a chicken shortage. The boneless pork patty looks like a mini rack of ribs covered with a tangy barbecue sauce. The sauce patty is served on a rectangular bun and topped with pickles and white onions. In 1994, the prehistoric-looking sandwich was part of a summer promotion for The Flintstones starring Rosie O’Donnell and John Goodman.

No one knows if this is really the end for the McRib, so you better head to McDonald’s and get one before the end of the year!
