How does life on your own private island sound? For less than $5 million, this could all be yours!

This week's featured listing is not your run-of-the-mill extravagant mansion. This is Chopawamsic Island, a 13-acre spread in the middle of the Potomac River. Located just across the water from Quantico, it is convenient to Stafford, Woodbridge, and anywhere else your boat can take you.

Electricity is available on the island, and water is provided by a private well. The dock is structurally sound and can accommodate multiple boats.

The main structures on the island are the main house, the guest house, the caretaker's house, and garage. Recent photos are not available, so it is hard to know the condition inside any of these buildings. The property is listed as having one bedroom and one bathroom.

Over the years, the island has changed hands numerous times. The first recorded owner was Giles Brent in 1649. Since then, it has been home to Reverend Alexander Scott, the Mount Vernon Ducking Society (President Theodore Roosevelt was a member), and even the National Geographic Society. Here is your chance to own a piece of history!

In addition to the rights to renovate everything on the island, the new owners can even rename it. For the record, "Chopawamsic" means "isolated lodge" in the Algonquian language. Another great selling point: the waters surrounding the island are patrolled regularly by the U.S. Marines at nearby Quantico and any of your guests would have to come in through the Marine base. How's that for security?
