Jason McGovern, the owner of Crush Pizza + Tap, helped us put together this list of 10 amazing pizza restaurants.
While we're fully aware that many of these restaurants are either a) temporarily closed or b) only offering takeout and/or delivery during COVID-19, that didn't stop us from listing the best pizza restaurants in the Denver metro area. OCN sat down with the man who went on a personal crusade to eat at a different local pizza joint every day for six months. It's safe to say that Mr. McGovern is living the pizza-lover's dream. Aside from his own fantastic pizza restaurant that serves Sicilian, deep dish, and hand-tossed pies and a wide assortment of local brews, these are the pizza restaurants that made the grade:
Cart-Driver – Downtown Denver
Hands-down the best quality pizza around, especially their Neapolitan pizza. From the perfectly charred dough to the right amount of cheese and sauce, to the super high-quality ingredients, Cart-Driver is at the top of the list. For more information, click here.

Panhandler's Pizza – Fort Collins
We know, we know, it's in Fort Collins but their deep-dish deserved a spot on the list! Panhandler's buttery crust is worth the drive and wait, as deep-dish usually takes about 30 mins or so to bake. But don't panic, 'cause that sweet sauce and cheese will melt in your mouth and melt your heart. Visit Panhandler's website for more info.
Proto's Pizzeria Napoletana – Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Lafayette, and Longmont
Proto's style of pizza is a little Neapolitan, a little wood-fired, and a little artisan style. Great toppings, good atmosphere, and welcoming staff. Click here for more information, including menus and locations.
Big Bill's N.Y. Pizza – Centennial
Big Bill's may be home to the most authentic New York-style pizza around. The guy making the pizza is taking the orders and making change for customers. It's New York-themed with an old-school pizzeria vibe. For more info, visit Big Bill's website.
Osteria Marco – Denver
Like Cart-Driver, Osteria Marco's close-to-classic Neapolitan style pizza is a must! But the restaurant has a ton of options to choose from, especially if someone isn't in the mood for pizza. Click here for more information.

Blue Pan Pizza – West Highlands and Congress Park
This well-decorated pizza place has all the styles to offer its ravenous patrons. And with two locations, you can get a classic Detroit-style pizza with burnt cheese edges, a Chicago thin crust, an Italian-style pizza, and a NY-style pizza. In fact, many of their pizzas are award-winning combos. For more info, including locations, click here.
The Walnut Room – Denver
Pizza, beer, and music—what else do you need? Well, you'll definitely need someone to share their tavern-style pizza with. It's square cut, but round and delicious. Try the BBQ chicken pizza, too; it's awesome. Visit The Walnut Room's website for more info.
Cosmo's Pizza – Denver, Boulder, and Fort Collins
They specialize in huge slices of New York-style pizza. Cosmo's also uses fresh ingredients and only serves high-quality pizzas. Click here for more information.
Famous Original J's – Denver
Famous Original J's offers two styles of New York-style pizza: original hand-tossed and a grandma-style pizza. The garlic knots are to die for! Visit Famous Original J's website here.
