The $3 burrito became a burden to employees and customers, reports say.

The party is over for people trying to get a cheap burrito at Chipotle. A video on TikTok went viral earlier this year for showing people a hack on how to order a burrito and pay only $3. After a couple of months, the company caught on and is putting the kibosh on the burrito hack.

The hack itself was very simple: order a single taco in the app, add sides of your favorite ingredients, add a large tortilla on the side, and then assemble the burrito yourself afterward.

Normally, Chipotle is very receptive to letting guests customize their orders, but this menu hack was causing a lot of extra work and extra stress on the burrito line.

The end of the $3 menu hack was first reported by Food & Wine magazine. Chipotle has fixed the system to prevent the hack by removing the option to buy a single taco. Now when you go to place an order, you can only order three tacos at a time. The kid's menu still has a meal that includes two tacos, which ironically you have to assemble yourself anyway. Not only did the menu hack create more work for employees, but it also made the wait longer for other guests and wasted packaging.

Chipotle hasn’t completely closed the door on menu hacks and knows customers will still take advantage of loopholes in the system. A quick search of the internet and you’ll find unique menu combinations like the quesarito, nachos, and dragon sauce. There are also ways to add sides to an order that will double the food without paying double the price.

If you want to enjoy freebies on the straight and narrow, make sure you always swipe the app and earn points for every purchase. Customers who use the app also get early access to new menu items and early notifications for promotions like the Halloween Boo-rito and buy-one-get-one deals.

In August, Chipotle released a lemonade scented candle, a nod to guests that fill the free water cup with lemonade.
