A place where service is also the star!
On Monday night, the culinary industry held their breath with each category as the James Beard Foundation announced their 2019 winners of their coveted, career-making awards. And when the category for Outstanding Service was announced, it was Frasca Food and Wine that rang through the air.
Located in Boulder, Frasca was one of 20 semi-finalists from across the country being considered for the Outstanding Service Award. The criteria for which simple states: A restaurant in operation five or more years that demonstrates high standards of hospitality and service.

Yet, anyone who has ever worked in this industry knows a high standard of service is not something simple to achieve and is filled with nuisances as discerning as one’s palate. Service is another tool that requires constant sharpening and genuine attention.
Frasca owners Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey and Chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson and their team seem to not only understand this but excel at it. With a menu inspired by the Italian Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, a less-traveled area tucked into the northeast of the country that borders Austria, Slovenia, and the Adriatic Sea, and a wine list featuring 200 varieties, a knowledgeable guide seems essential to the Frasca dining experience.
The inspiration for the restaurant’s name holds insight into just how important hospitality truly is “Frascas were friendly and informal gathering places, a destination for farmers, friends, and families to share a meal and a bottle of wine. Identified by a tree branch hanging over a doorway portal, they were a symbol of local farm cuisine, wine, and warm hospitality.”
Frasca Food and Wine is certainly paying homage to its name honoring not only food and wine, but a tradition with this award for the best service and hospitality in the U.S. Congratulations to the Frasca owners and team on their incredible win!
