The perfect date night!

Daughter Thai is a restaurant that I heard about and knew instantly I had to visit. This, of course, is something that happens to me all the time. What can I say? I love food. That's why I suggested to my boyfriend that we go there for a date night sometime. We both lived downtown, making it a perfect walkable dinner spot! I went in with high expectations and hoped the food would taste as delicious as it looked on Instagram. I was not disappointed.

Some may consider this a mistake, but we did not make a reservation. Because of this, our first available seating was at the bar. We were both totally fine with that because we wanted to eat as soon as we could. While I hope to get a table the next time I visit, our service at the bar was fantastic, and the bartender was great at helping us pick what we wanted to order.

Appetizers

The cool thing about Daughter Thai is that they serve traditional Thai food, but they also create food with a modern, Colorado-style twist. The menu breaks this up into "Classic Thai Kitchen" and "Daughter's Kitchen." Our server guided us through this and pointed out menu items that were particularly unique to Daughter Thai. I appreciate that he helped us to choose items we would not likely find elsewhere. One of these dishes was the Bangkok Ribs, on the small plate menu. They were incredibly tasty and came served with a glazed honey palm sugar black soy sauce. I've always loved ribs and these Thai-style ribs were no exception.

We also got the Money Bag starter. These are wonton wraps that are filled with marinated shrimp and served with a plum dipping sauce. It felt similar to a crab rangoon in a way (one of my favorites) due to the crispy wonton. I'm also a fan of shrimp, so these were a hit. That plum dipping sauce was a sweet and unique pairing that worked very well with the wontons!

Main Course

For our main meal, we split the Mea Sai Khao Soi. This is a noodles curry dish, with crispy duck confit served in a khao soi curry Mea Sai-style. It was awesome. The duck had the perfect crispy texture on the outside and the meat was delightfully juicy. When paired with the creamy curry sauce and noodles, it is a super decadent meal.

Drinks

Don't forget the cocktails! We went with the As You Wish, per our server's suggestion. This drink contains Japanese gin, Aperol, lemon, raspberry, and aquafaba. Aquafaba, if you didn't know, is a liquid that typically comes from chickpeas and can be used as an egg substitute. This liquid creates a foam when whipped, which enhanced the cocktail and gave it that lovely fizz at the top. The drink is also a cute pinky color, which is one of my favorite colors. Aesthetics do add to the experience after all! Other than looking cute, the As You Wish cocktail was also light, refreshing, and fruity. It was the best way to wash down all of that amazing food.

I'm really looking forward to dining out at Daughter Thai again soon. I actually tried to take some visiting friends there this past weekend, but I failed to check Daughter Thai's hours and we were unable to go. It didn't work out this time, but I know that I will definitely visit again.
