Fancy a taste of the South? Della J's serves up home cooking with a smile.
Tucked away in a strip mall off of I-95, you can find some really good Southern food. Fried fish, creamy mac and cheese, collard greens, and more can be found at this Springfield eatery. It's clearly a family endeavor with a story, and it shows in every dish.
For now, they're offering takeout, but they expect to open for dine-in service in about a week. Keep an eye out on their Facebook page or website for updates on the status of their full reopening. With an extensive drink menu that includes specialty cocktails, this would definitely be a good place for a night out.
As for the food, I can't wait to try more items from the menu. The fried shrimp po'boy comes on a grilled bun, with seasoned fries and a kicky remoulade. A small mac and cheese is just enough to have leftovers, so don't balk at the price tag. You could easily make a meal out of just the sides.
Yes, the menu prices are on the higher side for suburban Springfield, but you can taste the care in every bite. For the record, the mac and cheese is a super-creamy baked version, with a touch of nutmeg for a special zing. Collard greens, fried fish, and eggy potato salad were other standouts in our order.
Take a look at the menu and give this local comfort food spot a try. They have lunch specials every weekday, so give them a call before you place that order.
