The vibe is definitely a family-run neighborhood spot that really cares about their customers. You can tell from the thoughtful touches like the water bowls for dogs and the friendly staff who are full of suggestions when it comes to picking the right pizza.

I sat down with Kathy, the owner, who filled me in on the evolution of their menu.

"When we were coming up with them, I must have tried over a hundred pizzas. We knew we wanted thin-crust, and my son came up with the idea of serving them on wood planks. We make everything with really good, fresh ingredients and you can taste the difference." – Kathy Anderson, restaurant owner, Third Base Pizza and Frozen Custard Parlor

Kathy generously provided some of her best-selling dishes, and here's what we tried:

Caprese Salad

This classic tomato and fresh mozzarella salad is delicately dressed with fresh basil and a balsamic reduction.

California Club PIzza

This gorgeous pizza is a combination of a creamy, garlicky sauce, smoky bacon, grilled chicken, and fresh avocado. It's absolutely amazing with the thin crust, and I will definitely be ordering this one again.

Washington Burger Pizza

This ingenious pizza features pork and beef meatballs, tomato slices, and baby arugula for the perfect burger-on-a-crust effect. The shoestring potatoes are meant to mimic fries, and their added crunch is a nice added texture.

Half-and-Half Pizza: Margherita and Aloha

These two classic pizzas make for one satisfying combination. On one side, you have fresh pineapple with smoked ham and plenty of mozzarella, while on the other, tomatoes and basil are the perfect pairing with generous islands of fresh mozzarella.

Mediterranean Salad

A classic green salad with all of the trimmings hit the spot, especially with the simple housemade vinaigrette.

Banana Split

This colorful sundae was just the right combination of creamy custard and fruit. Fresh bananas, pineapple, and strawberries in sauce topped a boat of their swirled frozen custard, fudge, and whipped cream.

All in all, everything we tried was either classic and satisfying or innovative and swoon-worthy. Purists will love the thin crust and high-quality toppings. Foodies will love the Instagrammable presentation and cool flavor combinations. This would be the perfect place to stop for happy hour, with their $1 off drink specials on draft beer, wine, and rail drinks, Monday-Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.

The absolute best thing about Third Base is the menu. The prices are so reasonable, you don't have to wait for a special occasion to try them out. Every signature pizza is under $20, and look at how much you get! They have gluten-free crust and vegetarian options, too – they really do have something for everyone.

This is the sort of neighborhood spot that would be good for people of all ages. The fact that you can have two different types of pizza on one crust means you don't even have to agree on what to order. The patio is dog-friendly, so that makes it a perfect option for the entire family.

For more information, including when you can expect live music on the patio, check out their Facebook page for announcements or their website.
