Heads up, Edgewater! ShackBurgers are coming your way!

Shake Shack, the popular New York-based burger chain with a cult following, is gaining another foothold in the Colorado restaurant market. It's planning to open another location in Edgewater, joining the Highlands Ranch and RiNo locations that both opened to long lines in 2018.

Interestingly, the newest location is planning to open in the successful Edgewater Public Market complex at 5505 W. 20th Ave. It won't be directly located inside the food hall but instead, will be built in an adjacent lot at the corner of 20th Ave. and Depew St.

The building plans call for a 3,400 square feet building to handle customers. It's likely not the last Shake Shack we will see opening in the Denver area, as the company has plans to open a location at 260 N. Josephine St. in Cherry Creek and another at Denver International Airport. The DIA location will be on the second-floor mezzanine in Concourse B. It was supposed to open in 2019, but as of yet, no ShackBurgers are fueling the layovers of weary passengers. The location is now planned to open sometime this year.

If the new Edgewater restaurant follows the menu of the other locations, diners can feast on items you can only find in Colorado, including their green chile cheddar burgers, specialty frozen custard concretes, and various wines and beers from local breweries, and more, as well as classic menu items like the ShackBurger, crinkle fries, and griddled hot dogs.

Shake Shack is expanding at the same time that In-N-Out is also making its way into the state. In-N-Out is focusing mainly on suburb locations, while it appears Shake Shack is mainly staying close to the metro, except the Highlands Ranch location. Will we benefit from a delicious burger war? Only time will tell which chain comes out on top, but in the meantime, we are in for some tasty treats.
