The Great Greek has one of the most honest restaurant names in Denver.

This Mediterranean restaurant started as a humble family-owned eatery in Nevada and quickly garnered praise for its authentic food and friendly atmosphere. Las Vegas entrepreneurs Nick A. Della Penna and Trent Jones purchased the original location and are committed to both the culinary traditions of Greek cooking and the warm, familial dining that accompanies them. Their vision quickly outgrew the Nevada market, and the pair have since gone on to open 10 more locations in Texas, Florida and, of course, Colorado.

Although Denver has a diverse culinary industry, finding quality Greek food has previously been a challenge for fans of fresh tzatziki or slow-cooked roasted gyros. To this end, The Great Greek's menu of home-cooked Greek staples and commitment to sourcing fresh ingredients has been a welcome breath of fresh air in a crowded city.

Greek food isn't just tasty, however. The Mediterranean Diet has grown in popularity over the years as Americans make more and more informed decisions about their food. Mediterranean food is celebrated as both a healthy, lean dining option and an expansive culinary tradition with a wide variety of flavors. It's no surprise that The Great Greek has managed to capture this enthusiasm, as evidenced by an appearance on a WPTV special about Greek dining.

Additionally, the restaurant has won Best of Las Vegas fine dining awards every year since 2016. When a restaurant can stand out against the steep competition of Las Vegas, you know it has to be something special. While the restaurant has garnered industry praise for its menu and staff, the owners repeatedly stress that they prioritize offering a friendly, familial dining experience.

"Our goal is to treat every customer like a member of the family, and to make sure we exceed their expectations," said owner Della Penna.

Local entrepreneurs Shobha Kanherkar and Sanjeev Kanherkar own and operate The Great Greek location in Aurora. Originally from India, Shoba developed a passion for food while spending time in her father's restaurant. She has lived in Colorado for two decades and is exciting to continue her family's culinary legacy.

"I knew this was the perfect way to continue my family's business of owning a restaurant that impacts the community," said Shoba.

The Great Greek has two locations near the Denver metro area. One in Westminster and another in Aurora. To prioritize the wellbeing of both their staff and customers, The Great Greek has adjusted operations to better comply with social distancing requirements. They offer both curbside pick-up and delivery through their website while guaranteeing that all food is prepared with the utmost health standards in mind.
