The 2018 World Cup is here, and soccer fans all around the globe are geared up for the biggest sports competition in the world.

The world’s greatest soccer players are looking to make their mark in Russia. Unfortunately, The Stars and Stripes weren't invited to the party, so if you are looking for a team to support you might want to check out these 6 teams instead:

Brazil

world cup Brazil is the strongest team in the World Cup in terms of championships won, as they have won the tournament five times. In 21 World Cup tournaments, the Seleção have emerged victorious in 70 of their 104 games. After crashing out of the semi-finals of their own World Cup in 2014 (see below), Brazil will be looking to go two steps further by reaching the final and lifting the trophy for the sixth time. Brazil has a good chance of banishing the painful memories of 2014 forever.

Germany

world cup Ladbrokes states that Germany’s 7-1 victory over Brazil was the story of the 2014 World Cup with Die Mannschaft producing one of the best international performances in history. Germany is the defending champions and favorites to win. Germany breezed through the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification stage without a loss, and are expected to win this tournament.

Portugal

world cup Portugal is coming in hot after winning Euro 2016. This will likely be Cristiano Ronaldo’s last ever World Cup. Judging by his form this season, we can expect to see some world-class soccer. Yahoo ranks one of Ronaldo’s bicycle kicks for Real Madrid as one of the best goals of the season and, quite simply, this is the reason why Portugal should be on any soccer fan’s list of teams to follow. Portugal, currently ranked number 4 in the world, is not a one-man show and they have a team capable of pulling off a World Cup victory.

Argentina

world cup A powerhouse nation in the sport and finalists in the last World Cup, Argentina is expected to do well in Russia. This will also be the last chance for Messi to win a World Cup. The Argentine superstar retired from international competition in 2016 before being convinced to return. Like Ronaldo, Messi has won every trophy except the biggest prize in fútbol. Look out for Argentina making a big push to the final.

Spain

world cup 2010 World Cup champions Spain will be hoping to rebound after a disappointing 2014 tournament, where they failed to make it out of the group stage. This year, they have a squad that is young but fearless and talented. Additionally, they have wily veterans like Sergio Busquets, Álvaro Morata, and Diego Costa.

Belgium

world cup It is always good to follow an underdog in a sports tournament, and this year's surprise team is strongly believed to be Belgium. The country has never won a major tournament, yet they are currently third in the world rankings (at the time of this article) behind Germany and Brazil. Every World Cup has one team that defies expectation, and with top talent that includes Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, and Romelu Lukaku, Belgium is looking like that team. What do you think? Which of the 6 teams above are YOU rooting for? Let us know in the comments below. Post contributed by JemmaB Reports -- Only for colorado.ourcommunitynow.com.
