The former LA Chargers RB is making the news his first year with the Denver Broncos. But for the wrong reasons.
Late Tuesday, Melvin Gordon III was cited with driving under the influence (DUI) and speeding at least 25 miles over the speed limit near 5th Avenue and Speer Boulevard, in downtown Denver.
According to the arrest document (obtained by KDVR Fox News), Gordon displayed slurred speech, watery eyes, and a swaying stance. Gordon cooperated with officials for a sobriety test, and Broncos medical teams arrived onsite to administer a blood draw. The results are pending. Gordon was speeding at a rate of 71 mph, in a 35 mph zone. Gordon is expected in court on November 13, 2020.
Gordon joined the Denver Broncos in 2020 as a running back and has already had a successful season. Gordon ran his first 100-yard game, including 43 yards for a touchdown clinching the Broncos' first win of the season against the Jets on October 1. With starting all four games of the season, 65 carries, and a total of 281 yards gained, it's no wonder that the team is counting on Gordon for a win against the Patriots on Sunday.
The NFL doesn't take poor behavior and DUI arrests lightly. Based on how the NFL has dealt with other players in the past, Gordon could face a suspension of multiple games.
