Fans will be unable to attend.
The Colorado Avalanche will play an outdoor game against the Vegas Golden Knights on February 20, 2021, in Lake Tahoe. The match is part of a two-game event that will also feature the Philadelphia Flyers take on the Boston Bruins on February 21.
The games continue a National Hockey League tradition of staging outdoor games during the regular season. The February games will be the 31st and 32nd outdoor games since 2003.
The Avs have played in two outdoor series games. In 2016, the team played the Detroit Red Wings at Coors Field, and last year, the Avs played the Los Angeles Kings in an outdoor game at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs. Country star Sam Hunt performed at the game, and the Avs released a limited-edition tri-colored jersey just for the game inspired by the Cadet Chapel at the Air Force Academy.
There will not be spectators for the games, but both will be broadcast at 1 p.m. MT on NBC in the United States. The rink for the NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe series will be located on the 18th fairway of the golf course at the Edgewood Tahoe Resort. The location is situated along the Lake Tahoe shoreline.
All four teams will wear Reverse Retro jerseys for the outdoor event. The jerseys were designed to include historical moments in each club's history. The Avs' Reverse Retro jersey is based on the uniform worn by the organization while they were in Quebec City playing as the Nordiques. The crest includes the iconic Nordiques igloo logo in the Avalanche color scheme, with fleur-de-lis symbols on the hem and the shoulder.

"We are excited to be chosen by the NHL to play in such a unique setting as Lake Tahoe," said Joe Sakic, Colorado Avalanche Executive Vice President and General Manager. "Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful areas in the world and a perfect spot for an outdoor game. Although we wish our great fans could be there in person, we know they will enjoy watching what will be a great weekend of hockey."
The Avalanche are celebrating their 25th season playing in Colorado this year.
