It's been a few weeks since the Broncos secured the future of the quarterback position with Case Keenum, but the story of a local Denver radio host -- and what he did in the wake of the breaking news -- is worth talking about.

Elway. Griese. Plummer. Cutler. Orton. Tebow. Manning. Siemian. And now, Keenum. For those of us that bleed orange and blue, life is marked by the quarterback eras of the Denver Broncos. I finished high school, graduated from college, and got married all during the Elway era (we deemed it good luck that the Broncos won the Super Bowl just a few weeks after our wedding!). We had our daughter during the Plummer years and became season ticket holders during the time of Orton. Quarterbacks are a big deal, and everyone in Denver knows it. So when Darren McKee, or DMac as he's known on local sports talk radio 104.3 The Fan, heard the breaking news that Case Keenum had committed himself to becoming the next QB of the Denver Broncos on March 12, it didn't matter that it was already after 11 p.m. on a Monday night -- that he'd already been home, eaten dinner, and was now watching TV. He knew what he had to do. That's right. He got in his car and drove back to the radio station to pull an all-nighter on the air and thus usher in a new era for Broncos football. That's a new level of commitment from our Colorado media -- and a welcome one.
"It was a fun, creative challenge," DMac said in a Facebook video the following day. "I liked doing it. I had a lot of energy throughout the course of it. Had great support. We had calls the whole time." And in true Broncos fan fashion, listeners flooded the station with refreshments and energy drinks to sustain DMac through his long night of talking about the future of their favorite team. This particular delivery occurred at 1:45 a.m.: [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gk-oAissaKU[/embed] When at last the morning crew arrived, DMac handed over the reins and headed home for a well-earned nap. You can listen to his full all-nighter here. DMac has covered Colorado sports for 104.3 The Fan since 2008 and hosts The Drive on weekdays between 3 and 9 p.m. What do you think? Did you get to hear any of the overnight radio coverage? We think it's pretty cool of DMac to pull an all-nighter! Share your thoughts in the comments below! And welcome to Broncos Country, Mr. Keenum! Welcome to your era. No pressure of anything.
