Get your greens -- morning, noon, and night.
Good news, everyone. You can now start getting your daily dose of vegetables in a nice, hot cup o' joe.
Yes, you read that right.
A new concept of mixing a finely ground broccoli powder with coffee has created the — wait for it — broccolatte.
The idea was developed in Australia by Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation and Hort Innovation. Their goal: to boost vegetable intake and decrease waste by "creating healthy food products from 'ugly' produce," according to CSIRO's website.
And so, broccoli coffee was born.
But before you reject the idea, take note that two tablespoons of broccoli powder equal one serving of the vegetable, and the powder is made only from broccoli itself. In other words, there are no extra fillers. You can soak up the fiber, protein, and other nutrients packed in fresh broccoli — something many of us might benefit from.
Only one in 10 U.S. adults meet the recommended serving of fruits and vegetables per day, according to a 2017 study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So though the coffee blend was initially created to benefit Australians' diets, adding the powder to Americans' lattes might be helpful as well.
The drink is currently being served at a cafe in Melbourne, Australia, and has received mixed reviews, no pun intended. But if you can't travel Down Under for one of the trendiest cups of coffee in the world, you're in luck.
Broccoli powder can be found at many health food stores or online. And it's versatile, so it can be added to soups, smoothies, baked goods and more. Or if the veggie-filled coffee is more your style, you can simply brew your very own broccolatte from the comfort of your kitchen.
