7 diamond cuts you should know!

Diamonds are beautiful stones that can be used in many pieces of jewelry. They look beautiful in engagement rings, as well as plenty of other types of jewelry. Mother's Day and 2023 Graduation will be here before you know it, and jewelry is a lovely gift to celebrate both!

Diamonds can also come in many shapes and sizes. For example, I had previously heard of the "Princess" cut, but I didn't know what it actually looked like. So, I thought it would be fun to take a deeper dive into diamond cuts, that way we all have a better understanding of what these terms mean. Understanding these terms is even easier when we understand what "cut" itself means. This often refers to how excellently the diamond was physically cut, which is also called faceted. These days, the term cut is also used to describe a diamond's shape, which we will be focusing on today.

Princess Cut

This type of cut perfectly marries the style of the round-cut diamond with a square shape, which means they are also often referred to as square-cut diamonds. Show your mom how much she deserves to be treated like a princess this Mother's Day!

Round Cut

Round-cut diamonds, which are also referred to as round radiant, are the most popular cut of diamonds, due to their sparkle. These diamonds have 58 facets, or cuts, which allow for this amplified sparkle. Over two-thirds of diamonds sold are round radiant cuts.

Emerald Cut

This cut of a diamond has a rectangular shape and features long and straight cuts that look like steps. Emerald-cut diamonds appear as a higher karat than they are, which can be a great way to save money while still getting a beautiful stone!

Asscher Cut

This style takes the emerald cut and brings it up a notch. It's a bit wider and more square-shaped, and the trimmed edges allow it to sparkle a little bit more.

Trillion Cut

Also known as a trilliant cut, this style has a triangular shape and a flat top, which gives the diamond a lovely sparkle. This cut has traditionally been used as side stones but makes a beautiful and unique center stone as well.

Cushion Cut

The cushion-cut diamond features a shape that is similar to that of a pillow or cushion. These diamonds are square-shaped or rectangular-shaped with smooth curved edges. This cut has a particular appeal to those who are drawn toward a vintage style.

These are just a few of the diamond cuts you will run into while jewelry shopping. For all your jewelry needs, check out Pinetree Jewelers. As mentioned, Mother's Day and Graduation are right around the corner, and jewelry makes a great gift to celebrate these occasions, that your giftee will cherish for years to come!
