VB kicks will hopefully be available to the public soon.
The shoe designed by Hampton Roads resident Kenny Jones has just won the #haveanikesbday contest! The competition was started by community group NikeSBornothing on Instagram and submissions closed only five days ago. Since then, contestants made their way through two rounds based on the number of likes on social media.
Apparently, there was an issue with "bot voting," so the finals were judged by "a committee of trusted people in the SB/dunk community" and a point system was developed to declare the winner.
Although this contest was for a custom and not officially affiliated with Nike or Nike SB, it has been stated from the beginning that the winner would have their design made by artist and designer ReverseLand and that it would be made into a public release with the winner getting a share out of every order.
According to the Instagram post announcing VB's win "details on how the custom of the winning design will be sold to be announced later."
Jones graduated from Salem High School in Virginia Beach and his knowledge of the area comes through in all the details he put into his design. For instance, the soles of the shoes feature the notorious "no cursing" and "no skateboarding" signs. On the shoe itself, there's King Neptune's trident and a musical note in tribute to all the famous talent that has come out of the 757. To name a few, "Timbaland, Clipse, Pusha T- they all went to the same high school I went to,” Jones told WAVY-TV 10. The color scheme was inspired by the famous Japanese painting "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" and the soles are the color of beach sand.
This announcement was just made, so no word yet on how excited Kenny Jones is. But it's probably safe to assume that he's pretty excited!
