Hundreds of fast-pitch softball teams are descending upon Aurora this week for the 48th annual Fireworks softball tournament.

Featuring some of the top fastpitch competitors in the country, the softball tournament games will be played primarily at the Aurora Sports Park, as well as other fields around Aurora, including Olympic Park, Highline Park, and Horseshoe Park. The tournament will last from June 26 through July 2, and each team is guaranteed to play at least six games. Run by Triple Crown Sports, the tournament features "18 and under" and "16 and under" teams from all over the nation, including Colorado, Texas, California, Arizona, Florida, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, Illinois, and Tennessee. Hundreds of college scouts will also be on-hand to recruit players for the next level of competition. For the second year in a row, two Fireworks Tournament games will be broadcast on ESPN3. According to the Aurora Sentinel, several local girls will be competing in the tournament. The Colorado Styxx Gold Severtson team features Cherokee Trail recent graduates Chloe Knapp and Emily Bell, as well as senior Emilie Roberts (Smoky Hill) and senior Kailey Wilson (Eaglecrest). The Colorado Angels Gold team includes Sonoma Olson (Cherokee Trail), Terran Caldwell (Grandview), and Braelyn Crenshaw (Eaglecrest). Want to go? Cost is $30 for an all-access wristband for all games and venues, or $12 gate fee per day. Seniors (over 60), children (under 10), and military personnel (with ID or uniform) qualify for free admission.
