Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs will be home to unique, outdoor hockey event.

Outdoor hockey skates back to Colorado. On February 15, 2020, the Avalanche and Kings will square off at the U.S. Air Force Academy's Falcon Stadium. According to the Avs, this is the first outdoor game in the Air Force Academy's history and only the second to be held at a United States service academy (the first was held at the U.S. Naval Academy in 2018).

“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to host an outdoor game at the historic Air Force Academy,” Avalanche Executive Vice President/General Manager Joe Sakic said in the release. “We are grateful for the chance to honor our military and our local U.S. service academy with a special event. Having this game in Colorado Springs also highlights the growth of hockey throughout the Rocky Mountain region since the Avalanche arrived in 1995. We appreciate being selected by the NHL for this occasion and can’t wait to share the experience with our fans.”

This is the second time that the NHL has played an outdoor game in Colorado. In 2016, the Avs hosted the Red Wings at Coors Field.

"We look forward to taking part in our second outdoor game after a very successful event at Coors Field in 2016. Our fans have been instrumental to our success since the franchise arrived in Denver, and we are thrilled that they will get this opportunity to experience an outdoor game at one of our nation's great institutions," said Avalanche President/Governor and Vice Chairman of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment Josh Kroenke.

Tickets are understandably not on sale at this point, but they will be announced at a future date. According to the Avalanche, 2019-20 season ticket holders and partial-plan members will have access to pre-sale opportunities. Fans who wish to be updated with ticket details as they become available can sign up here.
