It was a competition in name only. The Colorado Tattoo Competition showed us that you can find camaraderie anywhere!

Participants in the 25th annual Colorado Tattoo Competition arrived at the Mortgage Solutions Financial Expo Center without much of a competitive spirit. That Sunday, everyone was there to be impressed and inspired by the creative work that people have dedicated their lives and their bodies to. The Colorado Tattoo Competition is part of a two-day expo, the Colorado Super Show Motorcycle Show and Swap Meet. The competition recognizes local and state tattoo artists, as well as those who have chosen to get some unique permanent artwork on their body somewhere. There were 10 categories that dozens of contestants participated in, including best color, best portrait, and best in show.

Chris Desilets, organizer of the Colorado Tattoo Competition, said that many tattoos aren't just there to look cool. A person's tattoos can tell you a lot about them. Each one is a piece of a story, giving you an insight into the person without ever engaging them.  The competition began 25 years ago as a way to dispel stereotypes about tattoos and people who had them. When the competition was started, tattooing wasn't mainstream. Now that just about everyone and their grandmother has a tattoo, though, the competition is more about fun and getting name recognition.
