On August 19, a parking lot will become an art gallery. The one-night exhibition titled "Drive-In: Personal Space" is the first in a series of pop-up exhibitions that will be using vehicles as exhibition spaces.

You can truly see a person for who they are by the status of his or her vehicle. Black Cube, a "nomadic contemporary art museum" that creates pop-up installations, is giving guests the chance to interact and peek inside artists' cars in a one-night-only exhibition called the "Drive-In: Personal Space." The exhibit will take place in the construction lot at 2606 Lawrence Street on 26th Avenue (between Lawrence and Arapahoe), from 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. The construction lot is the area of the soon-to-be-developed S*Park in RiNo Arts District -- an up-and-coming community that immerses individuals in the "arts, lifestyle, culture and energy of one of Denver's most exciting urban areas." drive-in There will be 12 artists who will be using their cars as galleries, allowing guests the chance to see a variety of multi-media pieces within the cars. It will be fairly intimate, with the focus on cars and their relation to identity -- cars are essentially an extension of the individual. The free event will hopefully allow visitors to partake in deep conversations about how society views and uses cars as transportation, but also as part of one's identity, economy, and so much more.
This will be the first of three pop-up events, with the final two occurring in the fall. No word on what the concepts are, but one is scheduled to take place at a local junkyard with donated cars as the centerpieces. The third and final exhibit will take place in the parking lot of the Golden Triangle in Denver and will focus on the exploration of artists as entrepreneurs. Between the three events, over 30 artists will participate. The exhibit ran from September 15, 2016, to December 31, 2016. Read more about the pop-up experiment here. What do you think of the upcoming pop-up exhibits, specifically "Drive-In: Personal Space"?
