The annual Del Ray Halloween Parade draws thousands of local area residents every year. This year’s parade and activities are planned to take place October 29.

If you are one of those parents who would rather not tour the neighborhood with the kids after dark, the annual Del Ray Halloween Parade is a great alternative, as well as a supplement to trick-or-treating and other Halloween parties and activities. Last year, more than 7,000 people attended the event, which is fun for kids and adults alike. Best of all, the parade and activities are free, including the goodie bags handed out by volunteers each year. Awards and prizes will be handed out in various categories, including Best Decorated Stroller, Best Pet Costume, Best Decorated Home, and Best Decorated Business (along the parade’s route). Those who wish to compete for the prizes are not required to pay any fee; local elected and city officials will be judging the contests.
While the parade and its contests are the main event, the day’s activities also include free refreshments and goodie bags at the Mount Vernon Rec Center when the parade has ended. Both candy and healthy goodie bags will be handed out to the kids, and the free refreshments will include hot dogs, cookies, and apple cider.
