The Maryland SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is hosting its 3rd annual “Kitten Shower” to help care for the hundreds of stray kittens who end up at their facility each year.
No need to bring an umbrella though. This shower promises nothing but smiles, warm cuddles, and the possibility of adding a fur baby as one more member to your family. On Saturday April 14, the Maryland SPCA is welcoming everyone, including kids, to this family-friendly event. Running from 11a.m. to 2 p.m., this is a great time to educate young and old about the needs of stray kittens and the life-saving services provided by the organization.
And just like any other (fur) baby shower worth its salt, this one has a kitten wish list. Unlike trying to justify buying yet another outfit with bear ears for a human baby shower, all the items here are essential to taking care of each precious little fur ball. The items are available through Amazon and even have an informative description next to each one. Did you know that Velveeta cheese is how the vets get some fussy guys and gals to take their medicine? If the liquid gold is a must for my bowl of Mac & Cheese, I can see why Mr. Fluffy Paws is also a fan.
There is no fee to attend, but due to limited space you do need to reserve your spot by registering on the event’s page. If Facebook is more your speed, they have an event page there as well. Because the attendance fee is an oh-so affordable $0, participants are encouraged to find a few items on the wish list they are willing to buy and donate to the shelter.
Bottom line: spring is kitten season. Last year at this time, the SPCA took in 819 kittens. That’s a lot of meowing, purring, and cuddling. But these little ones also need medical care and more importantly warmth, comfort and love. So grab a bag of kitten food and some crinkle toys, and go boop a cutie pie on their adorable wet little snout. Go ahead, make a kitten’s day by being their cat tree. I double dog cat dare you!
