Valentine’s Day is known as a holiday for lovers, but what about showing some love to your friends?

Galentine's Day was created to celebrate and honor friendship and is traditionally celebrated the night before Valentine's Day. Get the girls (or guys) together for Valentine’s Day-themed activity you’ll all remember. This year several businesses around Maryland are offering "Galentine’s Day" workshops where you can make a gift, learn a new hobby or spend time with good friends. From candle making to charcuterie boards, these crafty workshops are a fun and affordable way to celebrate Galentine's Day.

Candle Workshop at Scents by the Company

Candle-making can be messy and complicated, but Scents by the Company has made it its mission to make the process fun and simple. The Silver Spring candle shop hosts candle workshops all year long where guests can learn to make candles using soy wax and essential oils. The studio provides everything you need to pour your own candle, and you can bring in your own food and wine, making it the perfect Galentine’s Day activity. Sessions are $65 per person and can be booked online.

Glass Blowing at McFadden Art Glass

McFadden Art Glass creates everyday glass products and custom art pieces at its Baltimore-based studio. The studio offers make-your-own classes where students work with resident artists to create their own glass souvenirs. Classes range from $25 to $70, depending on the item you choose. Items on the menu include vases, glassware, ornaments, and jewelry. Make your own classes are available Tuesday through Sunday and can accommodate individuals and small groups.

Galentine’s Painting Party at The Pottery Stop

The Pottery Stop in Ellicott City is holding a Galentine’s Bestie Bash on February 10. You and your Galantines can sip, nosh, and paint a cute piece of pottery. The cost is $10 per person plus the price of your pottery piece. Pottery ranges from $25 to $50 and takes about seven days to be fired. Guests will get a treat bag and are welcome to bring their wine and food. Can’t make it that day? The Pottery Shop offers paint at-home packages. 

Build Charcuterie Boards with MikksKakes and Porter Boards

MikksKakes and Porter Boards are joining forces for a unique Valentine’s Day event. Kupcakes and Charcuterie is a workshop where guests can build a heart-shaped charcuterie board and decorate a four-pack of cupcakes. The event will be held on Saturday, February 11, at the historic Savage Mill. Tickets are $80 each, and each guest can enjoy music, wine, and snacks. Singles, couples, and Galentines are welcome!

Calligraphy Class​​​​​​​ at Sip and Script

Calligraphy can be used to address invitations, write heartfelt letters or decorate scrapbooks. Learn the art of lettering in a fun atmosphere during this Calligraphy beginners class. Sip and Script will be holding several Galentine’s calligraphy workshops in Columbia, Eldridge, and Odenton. Each class will be held at a restaurant, so you'll have your pick of cocktails and food. Tickets are $65, including a calligraphy kit with nibs, a paint pot, tracing paper, letter guides, and a pen holder.
