Welcome to the second edition of your DMV weekend guide! We’ve picked out the best things for you to do and see this weekend because we want to make sure you’re maximizing your time off from work.

Here are your picks for the weekend of August 17–19!

The Loop Installation | CityCenterDC | Friday, Saturday, Sunday

The Loop installation is only in Washington, D.C., for a month or so, so make sure you get a chance to see it and experience it before it's gone. I always love art I can interact with, and this exhibit delivers in excitement. It’s better if you go after dark to get the full effect, but know it is completely free and open to the public throughout the entire day. Read more about it here

Fun House Installation | National Building Museum, D.C. | Friday, Saturday, Sunday

If you love the National Building Museum for their incredibly cool and innovative installations, they’ve got a fun (literally) one for you that’s coming this weekend. The Fun House installation is up until early September, so you only have a couple more weekends to experience it. The best part? When you get to jump into the backyard full of plastic balls. Get tickets and more information here.

Free Outdoor Movie: Black Panther | Farragut Square, D.C. | Friday

Summer is the time for free outdoor movies. Not only is this a great date night idea, but it’s just a great and casual way to spend your Friday night no matter who it’s with. Plus, it’s free, and no one can argue with that. This Friday, Farragut Square will be screening Black Panther. Pack a picnic basket full of food and come enjoy the last of the summer weather.

Marvin Gaye Park Summer Concert Series | Marvin Gaye Park, D.C. | Saturday

This is another free event to consider this weekend. First introduced by mayor Mariel Bowser, this outdoor summer concert series celebrates local music, food, and vendors. It’s much better than spending your Saturday on your couch, browsing through Netflix, right? And don’t worry: if you can’t make this one, there will be one more event on September 15.

Clear the Shelters | Various shelters around Washington, D.C | Saturday

Clear the Shelters is finally here, and it's your opportunity to adopt a pet from a local animal shelter here in Washington, D.C., with the fee reduced or waived completely. The event is actually nationwide, and each city’s is sponsored by the local NBC news station to help support animals in need. So, if you’ve been thinking about adding a furry best friend to your life, now is the time. After seeing all those cute photos, I may have to add a second four-legged member to my family. But don’t tell my boyfriend I said that …

La Vie Penthouse Viewing Party | La Vie Restaurant, D.C. | Saturday

Love new restaurants, rooftops, and good cocktails? Well then, the La View Penthouse Viewing Party may be just the weekend event for you. The event will feature food and drinks samples from the new restaurant’s menu. Check out more information here

2018 Around the World Cultural Food Festival | Freedom Plaza, D.C. | Saturday

I personally love trying foods from different cultures, so festivals like this get me pumped. With your food and drink ticket, you’ll have the opportunity to sample a variety of cuisines and beverages from the participating countries, as well as enjoy live entertainment. Find out more and buy your tasting tickets here.

D.C. Rooftops Summer Bar Crawl | Dupont Circle | Saturday

If you like to drink, and you particularly like to do it on rooftops, Dupont Circle has another bar crawl (they have many a bar crawl throughout the year) perfectly tailored to those interests. Once you register here, you’ll get a wristband and a map of participating locations. Then enjoy all those drink specials and rooftop views before the summer comes to an end.

Chesapeake Crab and Beer Festival | National Harbor, Baltimore, MD | Saturday

Who can even say no to crab and beer? Come out to the National Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, this Saturday to enjoy this outdoor foodie festival. This is the ninth year the festival has been happening, and your ticket will get you entry to all-you-can-eat tastings of both beer and crab. And there will be over 65,000 crabs at the event, so, get ready. Read more information to prepare for the event here

D.C World Reggae Festival | RFK Stadium | Sunday

It’s always fun when a world festival comes to Washington, D.C. This Sunday, the World Reggae Festival will be at RFK Stadium, with plenty of groovy acts for you to experience. You can read all about what to expect in this article
