After the hectic holidays, a family getaway is just what the doctor ordered. I can’t think of a better place to enjoy a respite than the Historic Omni Homestead Resort.

As your family drives up to the historic Homestead, it is as if you’re a part of movie set or transported back into another time. This stunning historic resort, which was founded in 1766, is set against the picturesque background of the Allegheny Mountains and is located in Hot Springs, Virginia. Over the years, this resort has transformed into the most family-friendly destination spot. While they’re open year-round, the winter activities are amazing and a perfect excuse for a family getaway.

The Omni-Homestead and its staff leave no resort detail unattended, ensuring that the winter outdoor and indoor activities, shopping, and dining options are exceptional for everyone in the family. You never have to leave the resort, as everything is available at your fingertips!

Outdoor Activities

Skiing and Snowboarding: Homestead features 45 acres and nine slopes designed for beginner to intermediate level skiers and snowboarders. Rental equipment is available, and if you need to kick the webs off your skis, there is the Sepp Kober Ski School, where instructors hold skiing and snowboarding clinics for ages 4 years and up.

Mini Snowmobiles: Visit the Mountain Lodge and let the youngsters take a spin on the mini snowmobiles that are made for children ages 6 to 12 years old (*see height and weight). Oh, to be young again!

Penguin Slides Tubing Park: I can’t think of a more fun and civilized snow tubing experience than the Penguin Tubing Park. After enjoying an exhilarating tube ride down the hill, the Penguin Express conveyor will deliver your tube back up to the top of the hill ready for your next run.

Horseback Riding: What a wonderful experience to take a guided trail ride through the woods around the Homestead property and the Allegheny Mountains. With a stable of 50 horses and multiple trail ride options, your family will have an incredible and memorable experience.

Ice-skating: Lace up your skates and take a whirl around the rink.

Outdoor Spring Pools: Adjacent to the skating rink is the Serenity infinity pool (which is kept heated at 85-92 degrees), as well as the hot springs-fed Octagon Pool with a temperature range of 96-97 degrees. Imagine a day on the slopes and then a soak in the heated mineral-enriched pool. You’ve got the best of two worlds just waiting for your visit. (The famous Jefferson Pools are closed for renovation).

Indoor Activities

If you need a break from the outdoors, don’t worry; there are plenty of indoor activities to keep you entertained during your stay.

Game Room Arcade: With a pool table, mini-bowling, arcade games, air hockey, a board game vault, and flat screens galore, this is an entertaining place to hang out.

Kids Club: The Kids Club is for children ages 3 to 12, with supervised activities for children’s enjoyment. Whether it’s during the day or in the evening, Mom and Dad can get some much deserved alone time.

Nightly Family Movie: Every night, classic and family favorite films are screened in the resort’s theater.

Indoor Pool: Enjoy the beautifully maintained indoor pool that was built in 1904 and is fed by warm mineral-enriched spring waters.

Shopping: There are 15 different specialty shops from which to choose. You are sure to find souvenirs for someone at home or—better yet—yourself.

Daily Historic Tour: The Homestead has a fascinating history from when it was founded in 1766. In fact, 23 of our U.S. president and world royals have visited, to the evolution of the family-friendly resort it is today. This complimentary tour is definitely worth it.

The Spa

This is no ordinary spa; the Spa at the Homestead is extraordinarily luxurious. Not only do they offer spa and salon services such as different types of massages, facials, mani/pedis, and so much more, what sets this spa above most others are the services that are unique to the Homestead. Now, this is where you can find me, my friends!

The Aqua Thermal Suite has several treatments, both hot and cold, that provide “aqua thermal therapy."

The Serenity Garden is an adult retreat. Here enjoy the natural healing powers of the hot springs which are rich in magnesium, potassium, and calcium. These waters maintain a temperature between 96-97 degrees. These waters feed the geothermal Octagon Pool, the naturally pressurized Deluge Shower, and the River Reflexology Walk. I feel so relaxed just writing about it. Click here for all of the services at the Spa.

Believe it or not, we've only covered just a few things to do during your visit at the Omni Homestead Resort. Click here for reservations, special packages, and more information. I hope you and your family enjoy your getaway to the Historic Homestead Resort.
