Why work from home when you can work from the mountains?
Remote work has become a new constant in many American lives. But why work from your home when you can work from a vacation destination? According to a survey conducted by Airbnb, 83 percent of survey takers have considered relocating because of remote work. One in five of the respondents has already relocated during the pandemic, some temporarily and some permanently.
Airbnb noted more people are booking longer trips (two or more weeks) to places close to home and family or in natural settings that offer ample outdoor activities, like the mountains. Unsurprisingly, one of those trending destinations is Steamboat Springs, Colorado. With excellent winter ski conditions and some of the most beautiful hiking and outdoor spaces in the state, it's no wonder remote workers are changing up their scenery.
According to Airbnb, the other trending remote work destinations include:
- Park City, Utah
- Truckee, California
- Durham, North Carolina
- Santa Fe, New Mexico
- Boise, Idaho
- Richmond, Virginia
- Greenville, South Carolina
- Indianapolis, Indiana
- Fort Walton Beach, Florida
Airbnb also surveyed 2020 domestic travel habits. The company found that 62 percent of respondents are considering taking a road trip vacation. Airbnb's data shows that 2019 trending locations (Paris, London, Rome) are being replaced for destinations near national parks and beach towns. One of the top trending domestic vacation spots is Breckenridge, Colorado. The quaint Colorado ski town has family-friendly activities year-round, making it the perfect getaway.
Additional top getaways this year include:
- Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee
- Davenport, Florida
- Palm Springs, California
- Tulum, Mexico
